Queen's Pier is the first location that had already been dismantled before Maf drew it. The lion symbolizes the queen's guardian, representing strength and protection as it follows her. The lady in the drawing is wearing blue, reminiscent of the outfit Queen Elizabeth II wore during her visit to Hong Kong in 1975, but it’s not the same outfit, and she is not the queen herself. This distinction adds a layer of individuality and creativity to the piece, blending history with a unique perspective.
Queen’s Pier Lion
Giant Animal Series originated from a humorous expression made by a friend's pet cat. Maf imagined how it would be amusing if oversized animals appeared in the Hong Kong environment, and this inspired her to start a creative series. Drawing from her understanding of animal characteristics and their relationship to specific locations, along with her imagination, the changing seasons, and current events, she began creating works that explore the coexistence of humans and animals. Through these works, she quietly captures and records the changes of Hong Kong in her own unique way.
